During the “Feste Vigiliane”, Trento celebrates its patron saint. This cultural highlight includes parades, historic reenactments, typical dishes and much more
Every year in June, Trento, the capital of Trentino, celebrates its patron saint, San Vigilio. For an entire week, the roads of the city centre are converted into an ancient medieval hamlet, where old professions are brought back to life and typical local dishes are prepared. Games, music, performances and historic reenactments are organised for the public in the first hot nights of the summer.
The event is opened with the culturally important "Cena Benedettina" on the Doss Trento. Don't miss the so-called "Tribunale della Penitenza", a fictive court chaired by a judge who decides who will undergo the "La Tonca", that is, an old form of torture reserved to swearers who where immersed into the water of the Adige river for three times in a row. An other event worth attending, is the "Palio dell'Oca", which can be literally translated as goose race, but is actually a traditional raft race (as shown in the picture).
The week dedicated to San Vigilio always ends with the traditional fireworks of San Vigilio on the 26th June. You will definitely have a great time!
