Vallagarina cycle track: Trento - Rovereto - Avio

The north-south axis of the Trentinian cycle path network leads through the southern part of the Val d'Adige, called Vallagarina, an area where wines with evocative names such as Marzemino, Enantino and Merlot are produced. From the centre of Trento, we proceed along the Adige river, past Besenello and Calliano (in the background the impressive fortress of Castel Beseno) to the area of Nomi, complete with a roadhouse (a refreshment area called bicigrill). A few km further south, the valley between Volano and Villa Lagarina opens up between Volano and Villa Lagarina where sunny vineyards characterise the landscape. From here we can already see the bell towers of Rovereto, the main town of the Vallagarina, and the second largest city of the province. The bike path proceeds to Sacco, where we stop for a side trip to the city centre of Rovereto.

The cycle track runs along the Adige river and up to the vineyards of Mori, where you can take the cycle track to Lake Garda. The Vallagarina cycle track continues towards south, past the villages of the municipality of Ala. The centre of Ala, the so-called "village of velvet", is worth visiting. The last section of the cycle path takes us to Avio along the foot of Monte Baldo. Thanks to the marvellous Castello di Sabbionara di Avio, surrounded by cypresses and vineyards, this village is a real eye-catcher. The cycle path ends at the provincial border near Borghetto. If you stay on this track you will reach Verona where you can find some cycle paths too.
